The Moth of Urr is located at Haugh of Urr , north of Dalbeattie in Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland .

Despite its location in the lowlands on Urr Water , the motte , whose ramparts and ditches were steeper and initially crowned with a wooden tower and a large palisade , presented an imposing image until the 18th century. The moth is at the end of a bailey ( english bailey ), the five hectares of the largest in the UK heard in a bakery, barns, stables and residential buildings were. The moat around the outer bailey is 15 m wide and has an outer wall. Dams on the southeast and northwest sides led into the Motte. Excavations on the Motte between 1951 and 1953 showed that the original structures were built between 1130 and 1160 and were destroyed by fire in the 12th century. The subsequent expansion and use ended in the 14th century.

Nearby is Mark's moth .
