Motz (magazine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Motz (own spelling: motz ) is a street newspaper published in Berlin .

history

It was founded in May 1995 as a merger between the street newspaper Mob-Magazin , which was founded in March 1994, and the street newspaper Haz (Hunnis Allgemeine Zeitung), which was also founded in March 1994 . The name also reflects this idea of fusion: Mo b + Ha ( t) z = Motz.

The newspaper originally had the subtitle "marginal - absurd - thoughtless". The Motz is published fortnightly with a volume of 24 pages.

Every second issue has been published as Motz-Life since summer 2000 . It differs from the regular edition in that it is editorially created by residents of the emergency overnight stay and focuses on the point of view of street newspaper sellers, the homeless and poor people.

The regular Motz edition, on the other hand, claims to pursue investigative journalism with the aspects of poverty and homelessness . Each issue has a thematic focus and fixed categories. From December to February, excerpts from the “Cold Aid Guide” published by the “Working Group on Living with the Homeless” are printed regularly.

The newspaper is sold on a Motz sales bus at Nollendorfplatz as well as at the second -hand department store locations on Zossener Strasse and in the Motz emergency night on Weserstrasse. The sellers spread the Motz in underground and suburban trains, on the street, in shopping areas and in front of market halls as well as in restaurants and cafes.

The Motz is the oldest and largest Berlin street newspaper. Its circulation of around 12,000 copies was only exceeded by the abandoned street sweeper.

Since 2003, the only year-round women's emergency accommodation in Berlin operated by GEBEWO - Social Services - Berlin has been located in the former emergency accommodation of the Motz in Tieckstrasse .
