Mounie Castle
Mounie Castle is a manor house near the Scottish village of Oldmeldrum in the Council Area of Aberdeenshire . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.
history
It was Robert Farquhar , the Provost of Aberdeen , who built Mounie Castle between 1641 and 1644. In 1701 or 1702 the mansion passed to Alex Hay of Arnbath . In 1714 Mounie Castle passed to George Seton , second son of Alexander Seton, 1st Baronet of Pitmedden . The family branch is descended from the Setons of Meldrum , who originally owned the property.

Mounie Castle is isolated around three kilometers west of Oldmeldrum off the A920 . It is considered a well-preserved specimen for a laird's house . The three-story building has a T-shaped floor plan. Its facades are plastered with Harl . A rounded stair tower emerges in the middle of the east-facing main facade. A small tourelle protrudes to the right at eaves height . The entrance portal is on the north side of the tower. The gables of the final gable roof are designed as stepped gables . On the northeast side there is a 1.5-storey extension from the late 18th century. The rooms on the ground floor are designed as vaults .
