The Mount Haast is a mountain in Mount Cook National Park on the South Island of New Zealand . The mountain is 3140 m high and has three peaks, High Peak with 3140 m, Middle Peak with 3085 m and West Peak with 3081 m.
The mountain was named after the German geologist Julius von Haast .
It was first climbed in 1907 by Graham and Newton using today's standard route. The mountain can best be reached from Mount Cook Village or Franz Josef Village in the warm season from January to December. The ascent itself takes place on several routes over rocks, ice and snow from the south via the plateau hut or from the west via the pioneer hut.
