Today's district consists of the formerly independent municipality of Bardenbach and Biel, which used to be part of the also independent municipality of Büschfeld . The two places were merged to form the municipality of Bardenbach in 1957.
history
Bardenbach was first mentioned in an undated inventory of Mettlach Abbey from the 10th to 12th centuries. Found stone axes are witnesses of human settlement since prehistoric times. Grave finds and traces of fire indicate the Celts .
Bardenbach belonged to the end of the First World War the district Merzig on, until then part of the Prussian governmental district Trier was. In 1920, according to the provisions of the Versailles Treaty, the Merzig district was assigned to the Saar area under League of Nations administration - with the exception of the Hochwald communities (districts of Wadern, Losheim and Weiskirchen), including Bardenbach, which remained under the Trier district under the name of the Merzig district. The district administration of the "remaining district" was in Wadern . After the Second World War , France decreed that the “remaining district” belonged to the newly formed Saarland, which was under French influence .
On January 1, 1957, Saarland and with it Bardenbach again became part of Germany. The economic connection to the Federal Republic did not take place until July 6, 1959. As part of the regional and administrative reform in the Saarland , the previously independent municipality of Bardenbach was dissolved on January 1, 1974 and assigned to the new municipality, from 1978 town of Wadern.
