Mount Hampden , also Mt Hampden , is a planned city in Zimbabwe .

Mount Hampden is to become the new capital of Zimbabwe and replace Harare . The total construction costs for the city are expected to be around 10 billion US dollars . Among other things, a new parliament complex is being built here, which is due to be completed in 2021.

The original plans for the new capital began under long-term ruler Robert Mugabe , who was born in the district.
