Moyra Davey

Moyra Davey (* 1958 in Toronto ) is a Canadian photographer , mail and video artist and author .

life and work

Davey graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University in 1982 and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, San Diego in 1988 . In 1989 she was accepted into the Independent Study Program of the Whitney Museum of American Art . In 2017 she was a participant in documenta 14 . In 2018 Moyra Davey received the Scotiabank Photography Award .

Moyra Davey is known, among other things, for the work Mailer . One of these series is Of Jane (Willow) (2014). Davey sends photo prints folded into envelopes in the mail. After their arrival at the addressee, these envelopes bear traces that document the way through the postal system to family members, friends and acquaintances. The envelopes are taped, stamped and addressed at the edges when they are presented in an exhibition space.
