Mubea , officially registered as Muhr und Bender KG in the commercial register, is a company from the automotive supplier industry based in Attendorn , which is considered the world market leader in the manufacture of lightweight spring components. With more than 14,300 employees worldwide in 45 production, sales and development locations on four continents, sales of 2.39 billion euros were achieved in 2019.

history

Josef Muhr and his son of the same name laid the foundation stone for today's Mubea group of companies when they founded the company in Attendorn on August 1, 1916. After the Bender family joined the company in 1931, the Mubea brand was established, made up of the initial letters of the owner families and the company headquarters in Attendorn. In 1960 the company expanded to Daaden , where the first branch, initially with 25 employees, was established. At that time, in addition to springs, numerous other products such as jar hangers and metal bottle openers were manufactured. Only in the third generation under managing director Karl-Heinz Muhr did the focus increasingly shift to the automotive industry.

The first site in the United States was in 1981 Florence ( Kentucky opened). The international expansion continued in the following decades, also under the fourth generation who joined the company in 1994 in the person of Thomas Muhr. In 1994 there was a plant in the Czech Republic, and Mubea has also been represented in China since 2004. In the same year, a new cold rolling mill for tailor rolled blanks is opened at the headquarters in Attendorn .

Since the beginning of 2011 the company Carbo Tech, a manufacturer of composite components in the fields of racing and automobiles, has also been part of the Mubea group of companies. In 2018, the Mubea Group also took over the Flamm Group . This resulted in the new Aviation division with plants in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Turkey.

Sales grew considerably in the first years of the 21st century, from 370 million euros in 2000 to 930 million euros in 2010 to 2.39 billion euros in 2019. Due to falling sales in the following year, the employees at the three German locations voted in Attendorn, Daaden and Weißensee to a tariff deviation. In the wake of the Corona crisis, the company put a large part of its employees on short-time work a little later.

At the beginning of June Mubea announced that it wanted to take over 49 percent of the shares in the development service provider Csi Entwicklungsstechnik. Mubea will chair a newly created advisory board for Csi.

Products

The product range includes a. Chassis components such as axle springs, stabilizers, fiber composite springs and precision steel tubes, as well as engine components such as valve springs, automatic belt tensioning systems and spring band clamps, but also transmission components such as drive shafts and transmission disc springs. Another area is the Tailor Rolled Blanks developed by Mubea, which lead to weight savings in the vehicle in a wide variety of applications. Mubea Flamm also develops and manufactures components and assemblies for the aviation and household appliance industries.
