The Theben AG is a 1921 by the master clockmaker Paul Schwenk in Stuttgart as Paul Schwenk - Apparatus based manufacturer of digital and analog timers , motion and presence detectors, Room and clock thermostats and components for KNX building system technology . Theben AG is the parent company of the Theben Group with seven affiliated companies and represented in over 60 countries.

history

The company was founded in 1921 as a sole proprietorship Paul Schwenk Apparatebau by Paul Schwenk in Stuttgart . In the first few years after the company was founded, patents such as "Patent for remote time switches " and "Patent for electromotive elevator devices for spring-driven clockworks " were registered. In 1930 the company developed the first automatic staircase lighting with pendulum and mercury tube contact (ELPA), which was based on the masterpiece by Paul Schwenk from 1918 and the first tariff time switches in 1932 . In 1941 the company moves from Stuttgart to Haigerloch , Hohenzollern. Theben Sarl , the first foreign sales company in France, was founded in 1971 . In 1973, the subsidiary PEZET GmbH Werkzeug- und Kunststofftechnik was founded in Haigerloch and production at the headquarters in Haigerloch was further expanded. In 1977 Theben applied for a patent for the rotating indexing disc, which is still standard in mechanical time switches today. In the same year the patent for the “socket outlet timer” was applied for.

In the 1990s, Theben began developing EIB technology with the first BUS- compatible time switches and twilight switches . In 1994 a digital clock thermostat followed with an innovative telephone remote control. Theben has been a member of the KNX Association since 1995 and is now involved in the further development of the KNX standard in a leading position on the KNX board . In 1999 Theben AG moved into the new production building in the Madertal industrial area in Haigerloch. Under the sales unit “tts - theben technical systems”, OEM solutions have been developed and produced for manufacturers of drive systems and control technology , energy suppliers and manufacturers of heating systems since 2001 . In July 2004 the Supervisory Board appointed Thomas Goes as Chairman of the Board of Management. In 2007 the company took over High Technology Systems AG, Switzerland (HTS) - the Swiss inventor of the motion detector . They merged with the existing Theben (Schweiz) AG to form Theben HTS AG, based in Effretikon , Switzerland.

In 2013, Theben Spain SL and Theben Asia PTE. Ltd. founded in Singapore . In November 2015, a restructuring took place at the board level. After Thomas Goes left the company, all tasks and responsibilities were transferred to the two board members Thomas Sell and Andreas Stratmann. On September 1, 2016, Paul Sebastian Schwenk, the great-grandson of the company founder, took over his position as board member responsible for marketing, business development, digitization, IT and human resources as well as the smart energy business area. Andreas Stratmann left shortly before.

Theben AG, as a pioneer with several patented developments, played a key role in the development of the European installation bus technology (EIB), the forerunner of the worldwide KNX standard for building system technology. In addition, Theben is the owner of a number of other patents in the home and building automation sector . The latest developments at Theben AG concern innovations in the field of smart energy and smart metering systems with extended communication and visualization of consumption data.
