Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Qahtani

Muhammad ibn Abdillah al-Qahtani ( Arabic محمد عبد الله القحطاني, DMG Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allaah al-Qaḥṭānī ; * 1935 ; † 1980 ) was a Saudi preacher.

Muhammad al-Qahtani is considered to be one of the main characters in the siege of the Kaaba or the occupation of the Holy Mosque in Mecca , Saudi Arabia , the most important Islamic pilgrimage site . Like the leader Juhaiman al-Utaibi , Qahtani was a student of the famous Islamic theologian and Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Abd al-Aziz ibn Baz . Qahtani joined a group of extreme Wahhabis who made an armed attempt in 1979 to overthrow the Saud dynasty under the rule of King Khalid ibn Abd al-Aziz . He was proclaimed the expected Mahdi by the leader of the occupiers , but killed during the attack.
