Islamic Center Geneva

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Islamic Center Geneva (Center islamique de Genève) was founded in 1961 by the Egyptian Said Ramadan , the leading activist of the Muslim Brotherhood , after his flight from exile in Syria. He headed the center until his death in 1995, when his successor has been his son Hani Ramadan . The centre's board of directors consists mainly of the founder's widow and her children, including Tariq Ramadan .

This is the oldest center in Europe dedicated to the spread of Islam . Funding was initially provided partly by the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, partly by the then Saudi Prince Faisal , and until 1971 also by the Islamic World League . Since the inauguration of the Geneva Mosque in 1978, the center has also been called the Little Mosque of Geneva.
