Mulher Rendeira

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mulher Rendeira (Portuguese lace maker ) is considered the hymn or battle song of the Cangaceiros , a lawless gang (Cangaço) in the Sertão (Portuguese [serˈtɐ̃w̃]) of the semi-desert landscape in inland Brazil .

Virgulino Ferreira da Silva (Lampião)

The song is traditional and comes in different versions of text and melody. The year of origin is assumed to be 1921. Various sources state that the song was written and texted by Virgulino Ferreira da Silva , the leader of the Cangaceiros in honor of his grandmother Maria Jocosa Vieria Lopes. Since there is no evidence for this, a myth can be assumed.

When EACD , a Brazilian authority similar to the German GEMA , is Ricardo Alfredo Nascimento also known as Zé do Norte registered as a composer.

The song became known through films such as O Cangaceiro - The Lawless , Brazil 1953, directed by Lima Barreto . Awarded “Best Adventure Film ” at the Cannes International Film Festival in 1953 and the “Honorable Mention” for the film music (see below) Olé O'Cangaçeiro . The version as the title music of the Italian-Spanish color film O'Cangaçeiro (1970), shot in Brazil, comes from the Italian Riz Ortolani and cover versions are from various performers, such as: B.
