Mummolin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mummolin (us) was a Franconian nobleman from Soissons who lived in the 6th century , which is why he was referred to as Mummolinus Sessionicus by Gregor von Tours (probably to distinguish it from another person of the same name) .

Little is known about Mummolinus; Gregor mentions him rather casually. Mummolinus was in contact with Venantius Fortunatus and was obviously of Gallo-Roman and noble descent. He was the father of Bodogisel and Babo or Bobo ; According to Gregor, at least the latter has held the title of dux . Mummolinus may also have acted as dux , although no specific title is mentioned for him in the sources; but he was one of the most influential greats at the court of King Sigibert I around 565/66 . His two sons acted at different times (Babo around 586 and Bodogisel around 589) as Merovingian ambassadors at the Byzantine imperial court in Constantinople , with Bodegisel being killed in a dispute in Carthage on the way there .
