Sophie Stehle (born May 15, 1842 in Sigmaringen , † October 4, 1921 in Harkerode ) was a German opera singer ( soprano ). She held the function of a royal Bavarian chamber singer .

Life

Stehle's musical talent emerged early on. However, her parents (her father was a teacher) spoke out against training as a singer. Nevertheless, she succeeded in taking singing lessons from Ahler's singing teacher in Augsburg and then in Munich to convince the composer and opera conductor Franz Lachner and the royal councilor Wilhelm Schmitt. Lachner recognized her talent and recommended her to the court theater. Lachner, Kapellmeister Pentenrieder and Elise Seelbach continued their vocal training, so that Stehle made her debut as Emmeline in Die Schweizer Familie on September 6, 1860 . In view of the three-year stage contract, her parents have now also agreed to the vocal career.

A specialty of Stehle was to give different roles a different vocal color, so that they sounded different in different roles. Between 1860 and February 25, 1874, Stehle had over 740 appearances, 599 of them in Munich. She gave guest appearances in Paris, London, Berlin and Vienna, among others.

In 1874 she became engaged to Wilhelm von Knigge, stepped down from the stage and moved to live with her husband in Hanover .

Her brother Karl Ritter von Stehle became a councilor and administrative officer of the royal court and national theater.
