The Muncho Lake is a 12 km long and up to 223 m deep lake in northern British Columbia in Canada .
The lake is located in the Muncho Lake Provincial Park named after it and the Alaska Highway runs right past it (mile 462 on Highway 97 ). Its water has a jade green color, which it owes to the copper oxide washed out of the rock . It is between 1 and 6 km wide and is known for its abundance of fish. The species of fish found in it include the American char ( lake trout ), the bull trout ( bull trout ), the Prosopium williamsoni ( mountain whitefish ), the arctic grayling ( arctic grayling ), the Catostomus commersonii ( white sucker ) and the Catostomus catostomus ( longnose suckers ).
The name of the lake comes from the language of the Kaska Indians, muncho means something like "big lake".
