Munich International Summer University

The Munich International Summer University (MISU at LMU) is the summer university of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) and takes place annually. In 2019, more than 1000 international students from almost 90 different countries attended the MISU.

history

The LMU Munich hosted a summer university for the first time in 1927. Under the name of summer courses for foreigners , the summer university took place annually until 1934 and consisted primarily of German language courses for foreign students. The summer university of the LMU Munich was suspended for several decades until it was reissued under the name Internationaler Münchner Sommer . Since then, the number of courses has increased and the range of programs has been expanded to include additional academic disciplines. The summer university of the LMU Munich has been operating under the name Munich International Summer University since 2008.

aims

The aim of the MISU is to promote the internationalization of the LMU Munich in research and teaching. In the short-term programs, international students can gain an intensive insight into the research areas and student life at the LMU Munich for several weeks. Participating students receive academic support from LMU researchers and are also familiarized with the history, culture and politics of Munich as a place of study through excursions. In addition, the summer and winter programs offer the opportunity to strengthen cooperation with international partner universities. Upon successful participation, students receive qualified certificates with ECTS credit points according to the European Credit Transfer System .

Course offers

The summer academy is aimed at international students who want to continue their education within the framework of short-term programs at the LMU Munich. The MISU offers two course formats: subject-specific summer academies and German language courses. The summer academies contain subject-specific courses for the introduction or further training in academic subjects. They take place in cooperation with the respective faculties of the LMU Munich. The courses offered include the fields of business and communication, social and political sciences , law , medicine and natural sciences .

Students from all over the world can take part in the German courses. German courses are offered for all levels - basic, intermediate, advanced at different times of the year. There are also scholarships available from the Federal Republic of Germany, which are awarded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
