Municipal Buildings (Port Glasgow)

The Municipal Buildings of Port Glasgow housed the municipality of the Scottish city ​​of Port Glasgow in Inverclyde until the regionalization of the administrative structure . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B. The upgrade to the highest category A took place in 1990. Today, a library is housed in the building. Other rooms are used for events and exhibitions.

The Municipal Buildings are located in the city center between Greenock Road , on which the A8 runs through Port Glasgow, and Bay Street . Construction began in 1815 and was completed the following year. As an architect, David Hamilton is responsible for the design. A portico with four Doric columns emerges on the north-west facing front of the two-story, classical building . Above it rises a 46 m high, pointed tower.
