The Mường are an ethnic minority in Vietnam .

There are about 1.3 million mng. The vast majority of them live in the mountainous region of northern Vietnam in the provinces of Hòa Bình , Nghệ An , Ninh Bình , Phú Thọ , Sơn La , Thanh Hoa , Vinh Phu , Yên Bái . Several thousand mường also live in the south of Vietnam.

The Mường are closely related to the ethnic Vietnamese . Some ethnologists are of the opinion that they are also ethnic Vietnamese, but who have been less influenced by Chinese civilization due to the relative isolation in the mountains.

The Mường religion contains Chinese, Vietnamese and animistic elements.
