Murchison is an impact crater on the front of the moon on the northern edge of the Sinus Medii , east of the Pallas crater , which partially covers its wall, and west of Triesnecker (moon crater) . The crater wall is very badly eroded and partially leveled, the interior is relatively flat, especially in the northeast.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the British paleontologist Roderick Murchison .
