Murg lakes
The Murgseen are the three mountain lakes Oberer Murgsee, Mittlerer Murgsee and Unterer Murgsee south of the Walensee in Eastern Switzerland . The lakes are located in the Murg Valley in the municipality of Quarten , between the Hochmättli ( 2252 m above sea level ) and the Gufelstock ( 2436 m above sea level ). Its outflow is the Murgbach, which flows into the Walensee in the Quarten district of Murg. The Murgseen are surrounded by the Glarus Alps .
With the advent of tourism at the beginning of the 20th century, the Murgseen were discovered as a welcome source of fish for the hotels and restaurants in the area, especially for guests in Bad Ragaz . The stock consists especially of rainbow trout, brown trout, lake trout and char.
The Murgsee mountain restaurant (1825 m) is located on the Upper Murgsee, a privately managed mountain hut with beds (dormitories). Around the Lower Murgsee is the alpine plant protection area with a Swiss stone pine reserve.
