Murgtal (St. Gallen)
The Murg Valley in the canton of St. Gallen is located in the Glarus Alps south of the Walensee and can be reached from Murg .
The valley is traversed by the Murgbach, which flows into the Walensee. In the upper part of the valley it runs through the three Murg lakes . The Murgtal has several moor , swamp and alluvial areas. An area of 460 hectares is also as Arven excreted -Reservat.
Shortly before Merlen, the Gsponbach, which runs through the Mürtschental , flows into the Murgbach from the left . In the Murg Valley, acidic soils dominate because of the granite, while in the Mürtschental, alkaline soils because of the calcareous subsoil there. Since plant species often only depend on a narrow pH value interval in the soil, different flora can be observed in these two valleys. For example, the rust-leaved alpine rose occurs in the Murg Valley , but the lime-loving ciliate alpine rose in the Mürtschental .
