The Murgbach , also known as the Murg , is a 13-kilometer-long river in the Swiss cantons of Glarus and St. Gallen , which flows through the Murg Valley in the Glarus Alps and flows into Lake Walen near Murg . It drains part of the Sarganserland .
course
The Murgbach rises at about 2230 m above sea level. M. in the Walenfessis area below the Chli Höch between the Heustock and the Gufelstock, just on Glarus soil. After a short run it steps over to St. Gallen soil and at the same time takes on several short source streams in the hole before it flows into the south bank of the Ober Murgsee . It leaves the lake at the Murgsee mountain inn on its eastern bank and flows into the Middle Murgsee after around 130 meters from the west. It also leaves this in the east and shortly afterwards reaches the tree line .
It tumbles down a large valley step in a waterfall and flows into the Unter Murgsee shortly afterwards. The course of the river is now accompanied by strong bushes and trees, which are only interrupted by individual alpine meadows . The streams Strickbach , Chüelaui and Chartalpbach , among others , pour into the Murgbach from the right , before it takes in the somewhat smaller Gsponbach from the Mürtschental from the left . After the confluence of the Munzbach and the Tobelwaldbach , the Murgbach reaches the village of Murg in the municipality of Quarten , where it finally reaches 419 m above sea level. M. flows into the south bank of the Walensee.
