Muriel Rochat Rienth

Muriel Rochat Rienth (born March 25, 1971 in Basel ) is a Swiss recorder player .

Life

The musician from French-speaking Switzerland is the great-granddaughter of the French -speaking painter Rodolphe Théophile Bosshard (1889–1960).

She studied her instrument at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in the concert class of Michel Piguet , where she graduated with a soloist diploma in 1997. Further studies led her to Conrad Steinmann and to the “Flanders Recorder Quartet” in Belgium.

Muriel Rochat plays the recorder concertos by Antonio Vivaldi , Giuseppe Sammartini and Georg Philipp Telemann with various orchestras all over Switzerland and is the founder of the baroque ensemble “La Tempesta Basel”, with which she received the Swiss Orpheus Prize in 2000. With her formation she has had a lot of concert activity, so far in Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France, Germany and Spain. Many of their concerts were recorded by the Swiss radio DRS and Radio Suisse Romande. In 2008 she and her ensemble premiered the cantata Every Tone is Like a Star (text by Lukas Holliger ) by the Graz composer Viktor Fortin in Lausanne .

For the Spanish CD label Enchiriadis she published the recorder sonatas and solo cantatas of the contemporary Johann Christoph Pepusch with “La Tempesta Basel” in 2009, and in 2014 Telemann's tenor cantatas and recorder sonatas. Since 2015 she has been recording for the Spanish label Vanitas, which released her complete recording of Handel's recorder sonatas and Telemann's "12 Fantasias" for solo recorder in 2018.

Muriel Rochat teaches recorder at the Conservatoire de Friborg and is married to the Swiss tenor Felix Rienth .
