Murray Dowey

Murray Albert Dowey (born January 3, 1926 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper . At the Olympic Winter Games in 1948 , he won the gold medal as a member of the Canadian national team.

Career

Murray Dowey began his career as an ice hockey goalkeeper with the Birchcliff Midgets in the junior championship of the Toronto Hockey League (TOHL) and played from 1944 for the Toronto Tip Top Tailors. He also completed a game for the Toronto Marlboros from the Junior Ontario Hockey Association (JOHA). In 1945 he played parallel for the Toronto Army Daggers from the Senior Ontario Hockey Association (SOHA) and the Toronto Army Shamrocks from the TOHL. In 1946 he returned to Tip Top Tailors.

From 1946 to 1948 Dowey was with the Toronto Barkers in the TOHL between the posts. After the 1948 Winter Olympics, he returned to the Toronto Barkers for a year before spending a season with their league rivals Toronto Staffords.

International

For Canada , Dowey took part in the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz , where he and his team won the gold medal. During the tournament he had an average of 0.62 per game against. Since then, no other goalkeeper at the Winter Olympics has been better.
