The Musée Grévin is a famous wax museum on Boulevard Montmartre in the 9th arrondissement in Paris . It owes its name to Alfred Grévin , who founded it on June 5, 1882 together with Arthur Meyer. In 1998 it was extensively renovated for 7.5 million euros. What is striking about the Musée Grévin is the design by subject area. The respective wax figures are fitted into an environment that suits the person (e.g. theater hall for actors, studio for painters). In addition, the museum was expanded in 1998 to include the “Spirit of Paris” exhibition. Another highlight is the “Palais des Mirages”, a splendid mirrored room which, when effectively illuminated, gives the illusion of being in a whole suite of halls. The Parisian architect Eugène Hénard , creator of the similar, sensationally successful “Palais des illusions” of the Paris World Exhibition in 1900 , created this slightly scaled-down but improved version for Gabriel Thomas, the owner of the Musée Grévin at the time. A high domed room from 1882 is also one of the attractions. The museum has around 600,000 visitors annually and is one of the most visited private landmarks in Paris . The Musée Grevin has belonged to Grévin & Cie since 1999 .
