The Musée Roybet Fould is an art museum in the French city of Courbevoie . It mainly shows works of art from the 19th century, including paintings by the painter Consuelo Fould and her teacher Ferdinand Roybet .

History and collection

The museum on the edge of the Parc de Bécon , an urban green space on the Seine , was originally built in 1878 for the World Exhibition in Paris as a pavilion for the then connected countries Norway and Sweden on the edge of the Champ de Mars . The architect Henrik Thrap Maye had designed the pavilion in the style of traditional Scandinavian timber construction and used prefabricated elements during construction, which enabled the building to be reused in another location later.

After the world exhibition, the Romanian Prince George Barbu Știrbei bought the building and had it built as a summer house in Courbevoie. He later gave it to his stepdaughter, the painter Consuelo Fould, who set up her studio here. On the other side of the park, her sister Georges Achille-Fould lived in the Villa Pavillon des Indes , which also dates back to the 1878 World's Fair.

After Consuelo Fould's death in 1927, the building was bequeathed to the City of Courbevoie, with the condition that a museum be set up in the house in memory of their teacher Ferdinand Roybet. The museum opened in 1951. You can see mainly paintings, drawings and sculptures from the second half of the 19th century. In addition to works by Consuelo Fould and Ferdinand Roybet, these include works by artists such as Adolphe Lalyre , Ary Scheffer , Léon-Charles Canniccioni , Auguste Durst and Albert Gleizes . In addition, the museum presents exhibits on local history and historical toys.
