Musée du President Jacques Chirac (Sarran, Corrèze, France)

The Musée du Président Jacques Chirac , also known colloquially as the Musée du Septennat, is a museum that houses the gifts that Jacques Chirac received as President in the exercise of his office. It is located in the small town of Sarran , in the southeast of the Monédières massif in the Corrèze department .

history

The museum was inaugurated on December 15, 2000, during Chirac's first term in office ( Septennat ).

collection

Around 200 gifts that Chirac received as President in the exercise of his official duties can be viewed in a permanent exhibition.

The respective context such as state visits, international summits, etc. is shown here. The visitor is first given information about the French presidency in an introduction. Finally, photographs document a collection of all state visits by the president and foreign heads of state to France since 1995.

In addition, gifts from all over the world, sorted according to geopolitical regions, are displayed. Background information on the visit, country, culture, etc. is attached to each exhibit.

The collection comprises a total of more than 5,000 objects and 17,000 books.

The museum was based on a design by the French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte .
