history

The Musala ski jump was built in 1967 as the largest ski jump in Bulgaria. In 1983 and 1989 the Winter Universiade took place in the Bulgarian capital Sofia . The ski jumping competitions were held on the Musala hill. The individual competition in 1983 saw Massimo Rigoni from Italy as the winner. In 1989 there was not only an individual competition that Heiko Hunger from the German Democratic Republic won, but also a team competition that the GDR was able to win. In the team competition in 1989, Heiko Hunger set the official world record with 96 m. In 1978, however, the Bulgarian Vladimir Brejtschew jumped 96.5 m further than Heiko Hunger and holds the unofficial hill record.

Since the beginning of the 2000s, the Musala ski jump and the other ski jumps have not been used any more, because, unlike biathlon, ski jumping is not financially supported in Bulgaria.
