The Musbachtal is a small 2.6 km long, steep and narrowly incised valley with an unnamed stream, which is shown in today's maps as St.-Ottilien-Dobel . This side valley of the Dreisam valley, overgrown with mixed forest, extends from the Charterhouse in Freiburg to below the Rosskopf summit . The valley is located in the Freiburg-Waldsee district , begins below the Rosskopf summit at an altitude of 463 m and ends between Kartaus and the youth hostel at an altitude of 320 m. The Vogelsanghütte is located there.

A station path runs through the valley in the lower area, ending at the St. Ottilien Chapel . In the 18th century, a path of the cross with eight stations was built on the footpath that begins on Kartäuserstraße and ends in a clearing at the upper end of the valley, which were originally decorated with paintings. In 2001, the chapels were refurbished as the stone figures that had replaced the paintings were destroyed. Since 2001 there have been carved wooden blocks made of oak in the Kreuzweg chapels with images from the Passion of Christ, carved by the sculptor Wolfgang Kleiser, born in Vörenbach in 1936 . The beginnings of the pilgrimages through the Musbach Valley lie between the 7th and 13th centuries and reached their peak in the 16th century.
