The musculus nasalis ("nose muscle ") is a delicate skin muscle in the area of the nose and belongs to the mimic muscles . It compresses the nasal cartilage and thus the bridge of the nose, widens the nasal opening a little to the side and pulls the tip of the nose down a little.

The muscle can be divided into two parts:

  • The transverse part arises on the upper jaw, above and to the side of the incisive fossa. Its muscle fibers pull upwards and inwards and radiate into the aponeurosis of the procerus muscle and thus into the skin of the nose, where they meet the fibers on the other side.
  • The wing part is inverted between the alar cartilage and the skin of the nose.
