The rectus capitis posterior major muscle ( Latin for "large rear straight head muscle") is a small skeletal muscle of the head-neck transition. It arises from the spinous process of the axis and attaches to the lower neck line ( Linea nuchae inferior ) of the occiput . It lies in the deep neck triangle between the rectus capitis posterior minor and abdominal capitis superior and how those from the overlying muscle Semispinalis capitis covered. He is involved in the movement of the head joints .
