Tracheal muscle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The tracheal muscle is a muscular structure on the back wall of the windpipe ( trachea ) in mammals .

The tracheal muscle , together with connective tissue, bridges the part of the tracheal wall ( paries membranaceus ) that is not supported by the cartilage braces of the trachea . In predators it lies on the outside of the cartilage braces, in most other mammals on the inside. The tracheal muscle is innervated by the vagus nerve or its recurrent laryngeal nerve .

The tracheal muscle is made up of smooth muscles . Its tone ensures that the cartilage braces are closed in vivo . The paries membranaceus only becomes apparent when the muscle dies, and thus when the muscle relaxes .
