The transversus perinei profundus muscle ("deep transverse perineum muscle ") is a striated muscle of the pelvic floor and perineum ( perineum ). It arises on the lower branch ( ramus inferior ) of the ischium and moves towards the median plane, where it attaches to the perineal suture ( raphe perinei ), together with the corresponding muscle on the opposite side. As part of the external urethral sphincter ( Musculus urethralis ), it is compared to the Musculus sphincter urethrae membranaceae .

The transversus perinei superficialis muscle serves to stabilize the pelvic floor and maintain continence.
