Muses polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Musen-Polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 147). The work was performed for the first time on February 14, 1854 in the Sofienbad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The polka was written and performed for the artist's ball in Mardi Gras in 1854. Since the citizens' ball was also held on the same day in the Vienna Hofburg , at which the Strauss band also played, it was split up so that both dates could be attended. At the Bürgerball , among other things, the Bürgerball Polka was premiered. The muses polka was named after the muses of Greek mythology, those nine daughters of Zeus, who represented the most varied of art forms , according to the occasion ( artists' ball ) .

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 54 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
