Museo Valenciano del Papel

The Museo Valenciano del Papel ( Valencian : Museu Valencià del Paper ; German Valencian Paper Museum ) is a public Spanish museum in the city of Banyeres de Mariola in the province of Alicante in the Comunidad Valenciana .

The paper museum first opened on March 25, 1997 in the Torre de la Font Bona . The collection, originally created from donations from Juan Castelló Mora , shows the traditional process of papermaking, with objects and models of the old paper mills and hand presses . The paper industry was of particular economic importance in the region until the 1970s and was one of the most important employers for the population.

After two years, the exhibits were transferred and reopened on May 21, 1999 at the current location in the Villa Rosario, built in 1903 . The museum presents its pieces in six rooms spread over three floors. In the basement there is a paper-making workshop where visitors to the museum can make paper themselves. A special feature is the collection of around 1,500 booklets of cigarette paper, watermarks from the 17th to 20th centuries and paper toys. The museum also has an extensive specialist library with over 1500 volumes.
