Museu Imperial ( German  Imperial Museum ) is a Brazilian museum in Petrópolis north of Rio de Janeiro .

history

The museum is located in the former summer residence of the Brazilian Emperor Pedro II (1831–1889). The summer residence was built from 1840 to 1845 in the classical style.

The museum was founded on March 29, 1940. In addition to the furniture and paintings, the crown jewels of Pedro I and Pedro II are exhibited in 14 halls .

The imperial crown of the empire of Brazil, set with over 600 diamonds and 77 pearls, is considered to be the most valuable piece . In addition, the golden pen with which the Lei Áurea was signed in 1888 can be viewed. There are numerous fountains and statues in the garden.
