The Museu de la Tècnica de l'Empordà is a technology museum in the Catalan city ​​of Figueres in the province of Alt-Empordà in Spain. It opened in 2004 and is based on Pere Padrosa's private collection. According to its own statement, the museum houses one of the best machine collections from the era of the Industrial Revolution.

history

The collection of Peter Padrosa dates back to 1979, when he bought a copy of the portable typewriter "Erika" from 1910 at a market in Figueres . The collection grew over the years and on June 27, 2004 the museum was opened in the presence of the then Industry Minister José Montilla .

The museum building (built in 1944) initially belonged to the transport company of Pere Padrosa; it has since been gutted and upgraded as a museum building. A foundation ( Fundació Pere Padrosa Puignau-Margarita Pierre Mallol ) manages the museum and publishes a yearbook. In 2008, the Amics del Museu de la Tècnica de l'Empordà was founded . There is also an educational offer for schools.

collection

The collection includes more than 3000 exhibits from the 18th and 19th centuries, including the first sewing machines from 1830 and a large collection of typewriters including the first European typewriter, the writing ball .

Other exhibits include telephone systems, Comtoise clocks and a Hispano-Suiza car model from 1908.
