The Museum of Martyrdom of the Blessed Priest Jerzy Popiełuszko is a multimedia museum dedicated to the memory of the life, activities and martyrdom of Father Jerzy Popiełuszko in Włocławek .

The museum is located in the basement of the Sanctuary of the Martyrdom of Blessed Jerzy Popiełuszko , built several years ago , next to the dam at 167A Płocka Street in Włocławek .

history

On November 9, 1997, the decree of Bishop Bronisław Dembowski came into force, according to which the parish of Our Lady of Fatima was established in Płocka Street in Włocławek.

The Congregation of the Comforters of Gethsemane was entrusted with the creation of a memorial . It was agreed with the diocesan administration that when the new church and pastoral center were built, the congregation would try to build a parish church with its own chapel, in which a sanctuary for the life and martyrdom of the Blessed would be built in the future As part of the project “The Way of Martyrdom of Blessed Priest Jerzy Popiełuszko” carried out in Pomerania and Kuyavia with financial support from the Regional Program for the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship .

The grand opening of the museum took place five years after the priest's beatification on June 7, 2015. The sanctuary is overseen by the Gethsemane Congregation of Comforters.

Exhibitions

The museum consists of three rooms. The first room presents the childhood and youth of Jerzy Popiełuszko. The corridor introduces Popiełuszko's work for the “ Solidarność ” union . The second room shows the strikes and mass movements for the fatherland and shows the time of torture, harassment and spying on Popiełuszko by the regime of that time. The last room tells the story of his kidnapping and martyrdom.

In the museum you can find information about the life and activities of Popiełuszko as well as a description of the cult around the pastor of "Solidarność" after his martyrdom.
