The Museum of Asian Art ( Greek Μουσείο Ασιατικής Τέχνης , Musio Asiatikis Technis ) in Corfu was founded in 1927 as the Museum of Chinese and Japanese Art, and was renamed in 1974. The collection consists largely of donations, the largest being that of Gregorios Manos with 10,500 objects from 1927.

building

The museum is located in the former Governor's Palace or St. Michael and George Palace . The neoclassical building was constructed from Maltese limestone in 1819 . It was originally the seat of the Knights of the British Order of St. Michael and St. George and the British Prefecture on Corfu . After the Ionian Islands were annexed to Greece, it was temporarily used as the summer residence of the royal family. The building was designed by George Whitmore.
