Music Online Records is one of the oldest and largest music portals in Brazil. It has been online since April 18, 1998. The headquarters are located in the historic São Francisco district of the capital Curitiba of the Brazilian state of Paraná .

The portal was initially a hobby of the web developer André Luis de Andrade. His goal and desire has always been to work with music and help artists make their music public. It is one of the first projects in the world to focus on providing music without paying for it (Music Online Records is even older than MySpace ).

The beginning

At first the page was written in HTML only and from free servers such as GeoCities , Tripod.com and Xoom (web hosting) . In 2000 the URL www.musiconline.com.br was bought. In addition, an automated service was set up that enables artists, composers and bands to log into the VIP AREA free of charge and register their own works online. The new system is written with PHP and MySQL.

Between 2000 and 2006, Music Online Records had a very high number of clicks and was also classified for the iBest Award , one of the largest Brazilian internet prizes . In 2001, 2002 and 2006 Music Online Records was always one of the TOP 3 iBest winners. In 2002, 2003 and 2004 the portal was in the top 5 and in 2005 in the TOP 10. In all these years the site was in direct competition with other major online music projects in Brazil such as MTV Brazil and the sites of Singers Chico Buarque and Gilberto Gil .

The older versions of the site can still be viewed today using a Way Back Machine.

The first extension

In 2006 Music Online Records improved its offer: The VIP service was expanded and the database of artists, song texts, music radios, music videos, artist photos and much more was also expanded.

Until 2011, the website did not have a large partner to help implement the site. That's why the site started a partnership with XPG, a free website and blog portal, in the same year. At the same time, the goal of 100,000 registered users was achieved and the url changed to www.musiconline.xpg.com.br.

Currently

In 2012 Music Online Records got a respectable place in its market niche. The unique visits rose to 1.5 million per month (50,000 per day) and the followers in the various social networks ( Facebook , Orkut, LinkedIn, Twitter ) are also increasing steadily. The content-related part of the site has also been greatly expanded and can now also supply ten other websites (including Grátis Música and Ouvir Músicas Grátis), and vice versa, these also supply the portal with content (e.g. online games channel).

As of September 27, 2012: 110,000 artists, 110,000 registered users, 1.7 million lyrics, 189,000 chords, 5,000 radio playlists, 60,000 artist photos, 3,000 backyard bands and a complete channel with concerts and music news. The portal also has a million online songs and videos from YouTube, API and other partners.

In the next few years, the content-related part is to be expanded further, more discussions are to be held about the music so that the quality of the songs and the pages increases. There are also ideas to implement offline projects to help people develop further.
