Music schools open churches

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Music schools open churches is a benefit concert series that the Association of Music and Art Schools Brandenburg has been organizing since 2007 together with the support group for old churches Berlin-Brandenburg. As part of the state-wide concert series, music students make music in around 70 village and town churches in the state of Brandenburg from spring to Advent for the preservation and renovation of the churches and thus combine musical education and talent promotion, monument protection and cultural maintenance on site. The donation income supports the preservation of valuable cultural monuments, for example bells, church towers or organs.

As part of the concert series Music Schools Open Churches , young musicians from public music schools in the state of Brandenburg give charity concerts in church buildings that are threatened with decay in many places. The donations raised are used to restore organs, interior paintings or church towers, for example, or carry out other necessary renovations to the church buildings. At the beginning of the concert series, an opening concert is held each year in a different city in Brandenburg, which is often performed by one of the Brandenburg state ensembles such as the Young Philharmonic Orchestra or the Brandenburg Youth Jazz Orchestra LaJJazzO .

As part of the music schools open churches , concerts of all styles of music, dance performances and, in some cases, exhibitions, organized by the students and the teachers of the participating music and art schools, take place. Church tours complement the musical program. Many parishes also use the occasion to hold a church festival. The project of the Association of Music and Art Schools aims to revive the state's churches as places of encounter and to preserve them through cultural use. Another goal is to strengthen the intergenerational dialogue and to offer space for identification with and commitment in rural areas. The concerts also give the students additional opportunities to perform as part of their musical training.

Participants from the state's music and art schools are, for example, state ensembles such as the Young Philharmonic or the Brandenburg State Youth Jazz Orchestra, the music school's own chamber orchestras, choirs, youth wind orchestras, plucked and string orchestras, big bands and rock bands. In addition, ensembles and soloists from various instrument groups as well as from the field of music theater perform. Often the church organs are also integrated into the program. Composers, artists, teachers and alumni of the music schools as well as winners of the Jugend musiziert competition design the concert programs.

The charity concert series is sponsored by the Brandenburg Association of Music and Art Schools in cooperation with the support group Alte Kirchen Berlin-Brandenburg, the project is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and Culture of the State of Brandenburg. rbbKultur accompanies the concerts as a media partner. Manja Schüle , Minister for Science, Research and Culture of the State of Brandenburg, is the patron .

The concert series Music Schools Open Churches is a member of the cultural festivals of the state of Brandenburg.
