The Junge Philharmonie Brandenburg is a Brandenburg selection orchestra for which the young musicians qualify through an audition and which meets around two to three times a year for rehearsal phases. Following this, several concert appearances will take place throughout Germany and abroad. During the rehearsal phases, the orchestra works on the program with the help of members of the Berlin concert and opera orchestras as lecturers, under the direction of the respective conductor. Classical and romantic orchestral music as well as contemporary works and world premieres (for example by Albert Pace, Marian Lux, Mark Pogolski) as well as operas and operettas are played. Sebastian Weigle , General Music Director of the Frankfurt Opera , was chief conductor for many years , and Aurélien Bello was the permanent conductor from 2009 to 2018. In 2018, Peter Sommerer became the orchestra's permanent conductor.

The orchestra is supported by the Association of Music and Art Schools Brandenburg e. V. , it is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and Culture of the State of Brandenburg and the Friends' Association founded in 1997. rbbKultur accompanies the orchestra as a media partner. The patronage has Dr. Dietmar Woidke, Prime Minister of the State of Brandenburg.
