Daniel Suttinger (baptized name Sottinger) (baptized December 15, 1640 in Penig ; † late 1689 / early 1690 in Dresden ) was a German cartographer and fortress technician.

Life

Daniel Suttinger was the son of the master carpenter Marcus Suttinger (* 1606 in Vienna , † 1681 in Penig) and his wife Maria geb. Marggraff (* 1637 in Schmölln ; † 1679 Penig). His wife was Katharina geb. Madigall (February 14, 1672 in Ortisei). He also had a brother Christian Suttinger (1652-1730), who was an independent wood and stone sculptor in Chemnitz around 1680 .

Suttinger was initially a soldier with Elector Johann Georg III. of Saxony . In 1671 he came to Vienna and served there as a security guard. From 1672 to 1680 he made a wooden model of the city of Vienna for Emperor Leopold I , but it has been lost.

He got the title of engineer in 1682. Then he worked with Georg Rimpler .

In 1683 the engraving was done Turkish siege of the imperial capital and residence city of Vienna in Austria 1683 . He was then appointed captain.

He then left Vienna in 1686 and went back to Saxony, where he served in the field artillery. While still in Dresden, he made a wooden model of Vienna's fortress from 1683, which was lost in World War II .

In 1990 the Vienna City and State Archives commemorated Suttinger with the exhibition Daniel Suttinger and the early Vienna City Map , the same exhibition took place in 1991 under the title Ein Sachse in Wien - Daniel Suttinger and the Wiener Barockkartographie in Dresden. In Vienna the Suttingergasse is named after him, in Penig there is still an epitaph of his family on the city ​​church , which his brother Christian created.
