Music taxi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Musiktaxi (also MusicTAXI ) is a manufacturer's designation for a transmission method of audio data via one or more ISDN - user channels .

history

It was developed by the German Dialog4 System Engineering GmbH , which sold its devices under the “MusicTaxi” brand, until Dialog4 was bought up by the US company Orban and Musiktaxi was renamed Opticodec . In common parlance, however, the term “music taxi” is still in use.

General

Musiktaxi is available as a hardware or software solution from various providers and is mostly used in radio for broadcasts from outdoor studios or events. You can choose from different audio data compressions , but the most common is probably 64 kbit / s MPEG-1 Layer 2 at a sampling rate of 48 kHz, and 4SB ADPCM at 128 kbit / s (when using both ISDN channels).

The advantages of audio transmission via ISDN are the high reliability and the comparatively low transmission latency .

With the spread of VoIP telephone connections or when they are used “in the field”, either end devices with an internal ISDN S0 bus or other IP- based transmission technologies must be used. However, greater latencies or packet losses must be taken into account, which is why a stable Internet connection is necessary.

Trivia

In the Free Radio Kassel there is a program called since September 19, 2005 Music Taxi .
