history

The "Kolping Family Fanfare Train", the forerunner of the music train, appeared for the first time on May 1, 1952 at a performance on Hirschau's market square. The chaplain Jakob Wolfsteiner had given the impetus and asked the 20-year-old Josef Uschold to set up a fanfare procession. Uschold then led the music train for 35 years.

In May 1967 the "Kolping Family 's marching band" presented itself for the first time in a blue herald's costume, which has shaped the appearance of the chapel ever since. Before that, the musicians performed in black trousers and a white shirt, the uniform of the Kolping Youth. Since 1973 girls have also been allowed to become members of the Musikzug. On August 10, 1975, at the Further Drachenstich , the majorette corps marched for the first time at the head of the marching band. Also in 1975 the Musikzug organized the Hirschau Market Square Festival, which has been held annually since then, and in the same year the Musikzug made a guest appearance at the Steuben Parade in New York. The music procession has been represented in the Rose Monday procession in Düsseldorf since 1976 , and has been accompanied by the majorettes since 1978. Since 1977 the Easter concert has been held every year on Easter Sunday .

In 1987 Werner Stein succeeded Josef Uschold as chairman of the Musikzug. In April 2013 he handed over the chairmanship to his son Maximilian Stein.

In 1974, Peter Feldmeier, music teacher at the Max-Reger-Gymnasium in Amberg, took over the musical direction from the founder and then chairman. From 1989 to 2003 Anton Lottner led the music train. In 2004, Zlatko Stricic, a young Croatian conductor, took over the musical direction. In 2005 he was replaced by Annette Pruy from the club's own offspring. Wolfgang Vögele has been the musical director since 2017.

The Musikzug maintains partnerships with orchestras and brass bands throughout Germany, in particular with the Musikzug from Klingenthal / Zwota, and with St. Gallen Boys' Music (Switzerland). The first partnership was concluded in 1972 with the Kolping Wind Orchestra Emsdetten.
