Mahmoud was Iraq's military general from 1972 to 1979, working most of the time for former President Ahmad Hasan al-Bakr , but also for a short time for Saddam Hussein .
Childhood and family
His father died shortly after his birth, the mother also in early childhood. Despite his Kurdish origins, he achieved a good school education and a high military rank, studied in Russia, England and the USA and spoke six languages (Arabic, Kurdish, Russian, English, French & Persian). He worked mostly in the background and led a quiet family life. He was married and had five children. Shewan Mustafa Aziz, the only boy, now lives in Texas (USA) and works as a professor at the Tulane Cancer Center at Tulane University in New Orleans. Today girls live scattered around the world. Daughter Jwan Mustafa Aziz represented Iraq in several organizations, such as B. 2006 in the Dropping Knowledge in Berlin .
