Mustafa Ahmad el-Sheikh ( Arabic مصطفى أحمد الشيخ, * June 2, 1957 in the Syrian Republic ) is a former brigadier general of the Syrian Army and was last chairman of the military council of the opposition Free Syrian Army (FSA) until around December 2012 .

In the course of the Syrian civil war, the Sunni deserted in November 2011 and initially fled to Turkey. Mustafa el-Sheikh is one of the highest-ranking deserters. In an article published in February 2012, he announced the imminent demise of the Syrian army. Soon after, he became chairman of the FSA's Turkey-based Military Council.

Ash-Sheikh intended to participate in a transitional government after the end of the civil war and to help shape Syrian politics with a moderate Islamic party. After his replacement as Chairman of the Military Council in December 2012, the FSA no longer had any use for him. It is reported that he sought asylum in Sweden in 2013.
