Musumba , also Musumba Kekese , is a city in the Democratic Republic of the Congo .

General

Musumba is located in the Lualaba Province in the settlement area of ​​the Lunda tribe . The chief of Lunda with the title Mwant Yaav has his traditional seat here. Up until the 19th century the place was the capital of the Lunda Empire.

Education and culture

For the music of the Lunda, who also live in Zambia and Angola , Musumba is the center where most of the CDs of their music are produced.

The city is home to a Methodist institute for teacher training.

Personalities

Mwant Yaav Kawel II (actually Thomas Tschombé), who died here on January 27, 2005 , was the younger brother of the city's most famous son, Moise Tschombé , former President Katanga and Prime Minister of the central government.
