Mutilla laevigata is a hymenoptera fromthe ant family wasps (Mutillidae). The species is closely related to Mutilla marginata and Mutilla europaea and is considered by some authors as a subspecies of the first mentioned species or as a synonym of the second mentioned species.

features

The wasps have a body length of 10 to 16 millimeters. Both sexes look very similar to those of Mutilla europaea , but in them the thorax is almost not punctured dorsally and on the sides, and the body hair is thicker and longer. The hair is as long as the last four links of the antennae together. In the females the tergites are occasionally dotted.

Occurrence and way of life

The species has been proven in France and Italy, as well as isolated finds in Switzerland ( Valais ). The animals fly from late June to late August. In which species the larvae are parasitoids is unknown; it is believed that they develop on bumblebees ( bombus ).
