Mutz is a district in the Hebborn district of Bergisch Gladbach .

history

The Mutz settlement emerged from the establishment of a settlement in the High Middle Ages , which is documented for 1280 with the name Mocze . By 1905, the original settlement core had developed into a small hamlet with two farms and 19 residents.

etymology

The name of the settlement was probably derived from the stream of the same name, Mutzbach , because the names of bodies of water usually belong to the oldest names in a landscape. There are different approaches to interpreting the name. One view is that the name in its basic meaning stands for something cut off or mutilated. For example, the name Mutz could designate a striking tree stump. The interpretation of the place name with the dialect name as Mutt (= swampy land) is more likely . The latter also corresponds to the local conditions, as the proximity of the Mutzbach indicates a swampy / boggy soil structure.
